Dinner with friends
The weather was very miserable today. The River Wnion flooded across the rugby field and into our garden. But it's all right, the water does that from time to time. The water doesn't come up to the house.

This morning I went to the Quaker meeting. After the meeting we went to have dinner at the Halfway House (a pub in Bontddu). We don't usually go out but it was Bronwen's birthday. Bronwen is 90 this year!

The food was very nice but I ate too much! I didn't want anything else tonight.

(Welsh version is here...)

Current Mood: tired

Was the food traditional Welsh or traditional pub? I also love the idea of going to the pub after a Quaker meeting ;-)

BTW - I hope you don't mind me asking, but after a weekend of Eee use, do you find that the keys stick?

The reason I ask is that I've found toggling using the hot keys rarely works, or it works once and then won't do it again. I wanted to use the keypad rather than the touchpad because even at its most sensitive, the touchpad's a temperamental little beast, but the others seem to be following its example now.

To be honest, I haven't done much serious typing on the Eee yet. I haven't noticed keys sticking though. My problem is that I haven't quite got used to the distance to the right hand Shift key and keep hitting the Up arrow which leads to some cursing the Nth time I do it. Also I've never liked touchpads, so I'm still a bit clumsy with it and keep following links I didn't mean to follow! But I'm sure I'll get used to it.

Re the food: I suppose you could say it was traditional, though not necessarily Welsh. Traditional British, perhaps? I had home made veg soup followed by roast beef, Yorkshire pud, roast potatoes and veg. For my pudding I chose "ginger pudding", which was seemed to be exactly like treacle sponge to me, namely a faintly gingery dark moist sponge covered in syrup. The person who ordered "treacle sponge", on the other hand, got a pale sponge which had no sauce or liquid syrup and had to request custard for it!

Thank you for coming back to me so quickly!

I haven't got the hang of the keypad yet - that's why I've been trying to use the hotkeys. Maybe their not working properly is just nature's way of telling me I have to learn! I'll put a query into the Asus forum - try to find out if it's just me being clumsy. (It's so dinky, it's taking a bit of getting used to - it took longer to type 200 words this afternoon than 900 on the pc this morning. But I'll get there :))

The food you had sounds lovely - in the style of "traditional pub", I think. I can't believe your friend had to ask for custard to go with treacle sponge, though (which sounds as though it didn't have any treacle, either) - I thought it was sacrilege to serve it without!

The treacle sponge indeed had no visible treacle! As you say, sacrilege!

Re the Eee keyboard. You have to remember that I trained my fingers for many years on the Psion 5MX, which has a much smaller keyboard than the Eee. The Psion keyboard had to be powered by magic though because despite being so small, it was perfectly possible to touch type on it. :)
