Dangerous structure
Dangerous structure by Helen in Wales
Dangerous structure, a photo by Helen in Wales on Flickr.

8/52 for the group T189 alphabet challenge

The set theme was: D is for Danger

One of the old buildings at the Gwynfynydd gold mine.

Though the sign clearly warns of danger, people have obviously been totally ignoring it and entering the building anyway.

There is something irresistible about old buildings (though I don't include old mine shafts)

I... er... may have sneaked into one of the other buildings on the site during a previous visit. :)

The gold mine is in a strange limbo. There are, yet again, moves afoot to reopen it as a working mine, but nothing actually seems to be happening and in the meantime, the old buildings are becoming even more ruinous.

I do love the Welsh for "dangerous".

That's what I was going to say!

"Peryglus" (per-ug-liss, with the stress on "ug") is more or less the same as "perilous". Though I'm realising increasingly that a lot of Welsh words seem to be derived directly from Latin rather than, as is the case with English, via Norman French.

Perhaps that would be a good name for a tour company: Peryglus Adventures. (Or a geology walking tour...)

As you know, Iove this sort of shot.

Surely it's obvious? To the average human a sign saying 'do not enter' is a sign that means you must go in at once!
