Biscuits, a photo by Helen in Wales on Flickr.

48/52 for the group T189 alphabet challenge

The set theme was: X for Xeric

Xeric means "deficient in moisture" and that definitely applies to biscuits. Once they've absorbed moisture a biscuit loses its crunch and all of it's appeal. :)

Featured here are two of my favourite kinds of biscuit: chocolate digestives and Garibaldi biscuits.

We would call those cookies.

You can now get American-style cookies over here too and I even occasionally bake my own. We call them "cookies" and they are subtly different from biscuits. :)

Cookies are a bit softer whereas biscuits are definitely dry and crisp.

Garibaldi biscuits! We used to be able to get something just like that but bthey were called California fruit bars.

Now I know what to look for. I always loved them.

Not that I can have any kind of cookies on a daily basis.

(in the US cookie is a generic term and includes the dry, crisp kinds as well as the soft kinds)

I love Garibaldi biscuits, which I've found under various names over the years. Yum!

They were always squashed-fly biscuits in our house.

We just bought a pack of McVities digestives (sans chocolate) yesterday. But we tend to use them for cake bases rather than for snacking...

For "store bought" cookies I like mine soft - son likes them crisp.
But we both prefer homemade and they tend to be buttery.
I make 4 or 5 different kinds at christmas.
My son prefers ones that are just egg white, sugar and coconut.
