Returning stranded trains to the main rail network
Further to my link to the video of the waves washing over the harbour wall at Barmouth, here are some extraordinary photos of trains on low-loaders squeezing through the narrow streets of the town on their way back to join the rail network.

Not my photo. It's on the BBC website.

The trains had been stranded due to the damage to the track caused by the storms. There was no way to get them out, other than by road. What with the line closure further north due to the work on the Briwet Bridge and the damage along the coast further south, the whole route from Machynlleth to Pwllheli now consists of replacement buses. :(

Current Mood: surprised surprised

Thanks to this post, I just looked at a map and realized we will be vaguely in your neighborhood - trip to Tywyn in a couple of weeks.

Saw this on Twitter & almost did what you've done!

Great minds! :)

Hope you are well, Helen - I have been noticing your knitting posts. Industrious you! And very pretty. LJ has taken something of a back seat recently - I'm cracking on with TreeBook while the mood takes me. :)

Wow, that's amazing. I hope there are no sharp bends in the route.

What a fantastic image! I'm used to seeing engines from our local steam railway being transported on low-loaders, but never through such a narrow town centre.

I hope they manage to restore the line soon... It's such a lovely journey. I have very fond memories of travelling up to Penrhyndeudraeth on the train.

That really looks a bit insane! I hope it is all finished by now.

I love narrow streets and I have seen some very cool ones in Europe but my goodness, trains going down them :-o
