Phrase books
20/52 for the Flickr group 2014 weekly alphabet challenge

This week's theme was: T is for Travel

This is a collection of phrase books that I bought over the past few years to use on the trips abroad. I have to admit that I never did master even a single phrase of Latvian, Korean or Swedish. So they are now just souvenirs of interesting holidays.

We have no plans to go abroad this year, though I have no doubt there will be mini-breaks in the UK and I have booked to go to the World Science Fiction convention in London this summer.

In other news, I have just given the front grass its second cut of the year. I didn't want to do it, but I finally persuaded myself out of the house to do "just a little bit". Once I got started, I finished it all. The new mower makes all the difference. It takes about half the time and effort it took last year.

Current Mood: accomplished accomplished

I have a huge (IKEA) box where all my travel guides are stored. Most of them have chapters with "usefull phrases".
As I am away all week I once started to do evening classes. I started with kiswahili then spanish an now modern greek.
Most I had to stop after two classes, would have loved to go further, but then often there wheren't enough to do the next course or they combined two classes to one but on a timeslot where I could not take it.
So I can say some words, mostly to declare that I don't speak the language
"Siwezi kusema Kiswahili" or "je ne parle pas francaise" or " ne me hable espaniol"
Only english, as I learned it young and for several years, I can do quite well.
I hope with greek it might go better, as we visit our friends on Thassos regularly.

I've got that same LP Korean phrasebook. I'm not sure how useful it is on its own, but it's very handy as a guide once you can already speak some basic Korean.
