The unexpected return of summer
36/52

Summer has unexpectedly returned at the beginning of September. This late poppy appeared by our garden wall. (Note obligatory insect.)

But though the days have been hot and sunny, the mornings are a little damp and misty and yesterday all these cobwebs appeared on the grass in the back garden. Well, perhaps they were there before, but the tiny dewdrops make them visible.

Thanks. The weather often improves once the kids are back in school, but this seems like a particularly good spell of sunny weather and it's much appreciated. We'll get plenty of cold, grey and damp weather soon enough.

Yes, there are hints that autumn is on its way, but I'm enjoying the extended summer.

It's difficult to tell the scale in the photo, but it is much bigger than even the big field buttercups and, as you can just see the typical poppy seed pod to the right of the flower.
