Brussels sprouts
52/52 for the group 2015 Weekly Alphabet Challenge

This week's theme was: Y is for Yum or Yuck

A lot of people hate sprouts, but I actually find them quite yummy. These ones were destined to end up on our Christmas dinner plates, along with some carrots, peas, roast potatoes, roast parsnip and slices of roast beef.

Brussels sprouts

Current Mood: full full

I did not liked them as a child but K makes a soup with it or a casserole (potato sliced and than halved brussels sprouts )precooked) and covered with a strong cheese.

Mmmmm! That sounds good. I used to do a potato and cheese bake, but that was with potato and onion. But I could see sprouts working well too.

I believe that they taste very bitter to some people who are what they call "supertasters", but I've always liked them as long as I can remember.

I love brussels sprouts, steamed with butter.

Mmmm... That sounds like a tasty way to cook them. I'm usually happy with them just boiled at Christmas, but with a less rich meal, steaming in butter would make a nice change.

Oh, you’ve taught me something new! In my family (or is it an American thing?) “steamed with butter” means “steamed, then served with butter.” But based on what you said, I’ve found some recipes online where the steaming liquid already has butter in it. Nice!

Yum!

My niece hates them and is much teased - offered a chocolate from a posh box and then told it is a "Sprout surprise" etc.

I had a vegan friend who liked them dipped in tempora batter, and again over cooked and mushed on toast. I like them cooked properly, which means to me, more cooked than is the current fashion but not as cooked as they were back in the 70's.

Literally the only veg I actively dislike!
