I smell a rat
What I don't understand about the aftermath of the referendum result is why both main parties have just rolled over and said, "The people have spoken, the will of the people must be obeyed."? The majority was so slender, the campaigning so misleading, and so many people have changed their minds now they've seen the turmoil that has been unleashed, and yet the Tories and Labour seem keen to plough on and use the yes vote to force a drastic and damaging change on the country and the economy?

I'm beginning to suspect a hidden agenda, but I have no idea what it is.

I despair, I really do!

One of my friends made a post about it: http://solri.livejournal.com/485080.html

In the U.S., when the result of a vote is going to be something so consequential, we often require a two-thirds majority. I know many within the government of the U.K. don't want a precedent of redoing referenda, but when it was this close, it seems only reasonable to me.

That's two of us then, although it assumes that the two major parties don't implode which is equally likely.

I suspect that neither party expected Out to win, and didn't have a plan for that result.

No, they didn't expect the vote to go that way. Not even Boris Johnson and Gove thought they'd win -- and they were leading the official Leave campaign!

One of the things I've seen kicking around is a meme that goes something like:

"British public wants to name a boat something silly: British government says NO WAY. British public wants to destabilise the world economy: British government says OUR HANDS ARE TIED, WILL OF THE PEOPLE."

Ha, ha! It makes as much sense as many of the other theories I've seen.

Yes, this is worrying me, too.
