It turned out nice today
Today we had a nice walk. It's difficult to find local walks together because G is so much fitter than me that he gets frustrated because the walk is too short or slow, or I end up limping and exhausted.

Today we tried an experiment. G set off at 9 am to walk along the old railway which is now a walking and cycling trail. Some time later, I drove to meet him at 11 am at a car park along the way. Then, together, we walked the rest of the trail and across the railway bridge to Barmouth where we bought a picnic lunch which we ate looking out over the beach before walking back to the car park and then driving home. It worked brilliantly. I think we'll be doing this again some time.

Sounds like a great compromise.

I used to be able to walk further, but my feet just won't stand it any more and after 5 or 6 miles, they start to really hurt. Getting older is no fun at all. :(

Actually, I ought to try cycling more because that won't be so hard on the feet.

It did work surprisingly well. I think we'll have to try this approach for other walks.

a story i know well
i used to do a lot of walking
i actually had an odd dream this morning - i was walking in place i knew
when i woke i was momentarily confused - and then i remembered other dreams in which i am walking
surprisingly i can remember those dreams

Oh yes I know these discussions too well. K always like to have 15 km with lots ups and downs and I would like a nice walk about 8 km with no tseep parts.
He is not really fitter but more ambitous.

My husband always has been much fitter, but in recent years the gap has widened. Or perhaps I've just got more forceful about not being pushed to far and too fast so I suffer the following days. He can still walk for 26 miles and not even be stiff the next day, I can do an absolute maximum of 7.

We're off to London for a couple of days tomorrow and sometimes I'll take the Tube back to where we're staying while he walks back.

Sounds like a great plan. I love to walk, but even your 5-6 miles are more than I'd be happy with - if I walk more than 3 miles, I almost always come down with a virus the next day.

That must be very frustrating. My main problem is my feet. Good shoes or boots help a lot, but still only up to a point.

That is a great idea! I am going to try that with Gene. We are in the same boat, he is in a lot better shape than me and likes to walk further :-)
Thank you for postings this.
