Hibernation is starting to feel like a good idea, but I must resist
Right! The SAD is beginning its insidious campaign to slow me down. I can feel that I'm slipping into hibernation mode but I've arranged for the gas engineer to come on Monday afternoon to service the boiler and gas fire. This calls for FlyLady's crisis cleaning!

Fortunately he doesn't have to go all over the house, just the ground floor, and I'm sure he'll have seen worse, so it will be fine. It's just that I want to sleeeeep, or do the next best thing, which is to mindlessly read the internet.

Hugs

Don't think I suffer from full blown SAD but it gets close at times. I hate these long, dark nights.

The lightbox helps a bit. I sit in front of it for 20-30 minutes each morning. It cuts out the cravings for carbs and chocolate, but it doesn't help much with the general alertness, unfortunately. Still not long now to the shortest day.

Do you know we still have the hibernation gene? Sadly it is dormant. I wonder if it's as dormant as current thinking says? You see in the begining of the last century in some parts of France, shepards were still semi hibernating during winter.

My recent ancestors were farm labourers in a very rural area on the Welsh-English border. I should think that they more or less hibernated during winter too as they wouldn't have had much in the way of artificial light so would get up and go to bed with the sun -- which at this time of year is a very short day!

The lightbox (bright white light of natural daylight spectrum) helps a bit. I sit in front of it for 20-30 minutes each morning. It cuts out the cravings for carbs and chocolate, but it doesn't help much with the general alertness.
