Bacon bap
15/52 for the group 2017 Weekly Alphabet Challenge

This week's theme was: O is for Ordinary

Just an ordinary cup of tea and a bacon bap in Starbucks. No fancy food, nothing special.

Bacon bap

Having said that, I don't often get to visit a Starbucks because (thankfully) they haven't made it to my home town. We have some nice independent cafes and tea rooms, so a Starbucks is a novelty.

One Starbucks I'm not entirely pleased about is the new one on Shrewsbury station which has replaced the Pumpkin cafe that had been there for years. On the window it says, "Thank you for choosing Starbucks," which always causes me to mutter, Well I didn't have much choice, did I? You're the only cafe on the station. I did think the Pumpkin cafe had better food for travellers who might want to grab something in the 10 minutes they have available whilst changing trains. It's much quicker to just grab a sandwich than it is to wait for the all day breakfast bap to be heated up and Starbucks range of sandwiches seems rather limited.

"bacon bap" doesn't translate into American.

Ha! No, "bap" for bread roll is a very British word. :)

Mmmm... Bacon...

I suppose the station café was put out to competitive tender. That seems to be the usual practice these days. Customer satisfaction doesn't really have a lot to do with it any more.

There's nothing actually wrong with it being a Starbucks, and when we have plenty of time between trains, a hot sausage bap is very acceptable, but I find their sandwich selection very limited for when we have to grab something and run.

I am of course now pondering the range of things that would be useful for grabbing food between trains, because that's a problem that's not likely to be solved by the typical megachain.

I think I'm going to have to Google "bap," now. :)

It's just British English for "large bread roll". :)

Is a "bap" a bread roll made with bacon, or is the bacon in the middle like a sandwich?
