12/365 I'm fed up of photographing the dreary garden and the dreary landscape so when I got out the stuff to wrap my husband's Christmas present, I thought I'd photograph something shiny instead. :)

This wasn't really a good time to start the photo-a-day project because the weather is at its more drear and it turns out I was incubating G's cold.

I have felt grotty today with a stuffed up nose, feverishness and with aching hips and thigh bones.

One good thing about being unemployed is that I didn't have to struggle into work. On the other hand, our son is coming home tonight and we're supposed to be going to see my Dad tomorrow.

I will see how I am.

Anyway, with regard to Christmas preparations, I have got as far as taking the tree (artificial) and decorations out of the garage. This little angel is our oldest Christmas bauble. It's perhaps just a little older than me and my parents used to have it on their tree when I was a baby.

The shine has largely gone, but the angel still smiles serenely from her cotton wool cloud.

In other news...

The iPod that Amazon said would take 4-6 weeks has unexpectedly arrived, only a few days after ordering it. As it won't work with Windows 98, I'll have to use it via G's new XP machine in the moments when he's not using it. I will be trading in my own computer for a new one, sooner rather than later, but I want to start playing with my new toy now.

Next step is to order the little gadget that fits into the cassette slot of the car cassette player so I can play music etc. through the car speakers.

Anyway, random cat or not, I am full of turkey dinner (vegetarianism has lapsed somewhat recently) and I'm waiting for the second Creature Comforts programme, then the new Dr Who.

Meurig the rattie is also full of the bits of Christmas dinner that are suitable for ratties and is sleeping it off.

In other news, I have spent the Amazon gift tokens the offspring have given me and bought an iPod Nano. It will be some weeks before it arrives, but that doesn't matter as it doesn't work with Windows 98 and I haven't bought my new computer yet. Another job for the New Year.

So far I haven't done anything particular today. But hey! It's Christmas! If I can't just fiddle around and waste time on Christmas day, when can I do it?

There's only G and me here today, so lunch will be casual and laid back and it will arrive on the table when it's ready. My only plan is to relax, have a nice meal and watch Creature Comforts and Dr Who.

Tomorrow our son M and his girlfriend M arrive and we will all go up for the traditional Boxing Day visit to see my Dad. When a parent reaches their 80s, there's always the unspoken thought that this might be the last time this particular family ritual is carried out, but I will not dwell on that.

Finally, behind an LJ cut to avoid messing up anyone's Friends view and to avoid irritating those who don't like anything overtly religious, here is my home made nativity scene. ( Click here... )

At the moment, it's our only festive decoration, though I intend to haul the artificial tree out of the garage today and put it up before M & M arrive.
