From the field work day last Sunday.

There was a wonderful 5 minutes when there was a big enough gap in the cloud to let the blue sky show through!

For the rest of the time, it was really grey. :(

Here are some of the photos I took last Sunday while out with G's geology field trip. (I'm not posting the boring ones of rock outcrops!)

View from above Barmouth. This is probably the one I'm most proud of because I saw that view and that gorgeous light and I ended up capturing it as I intended. Often there's an element of luck as to whether something comes out well or not, but I'm at last beginning to feel that I'm getting to grips with the new camera and making it do what I want it to.

[info]purplecthulhu pointed out this LJ community. Lots of lols here!

Aanyway, I've been yearning to do lolcat images, but I don't have any cute pictures of cats and I don't want to just steal pictures off the Net -- even assuming I had time to go hunting for them! But I do have quite a few pictures of field work and some of them even lend themselves to captions. *g*

Here at last are the pictures to go with this post about doing field work in the Rhinogs. (Click on the photo for a larger image.)

As I said before, at first it didn't look at all promising for photos because of the mist. The lake had a very rocky bottom and shoreline.

More mistiness...

But the mist did thin unexpectedly...

And then cleared completely for a little while...

Allowing a view of the distant wild goats...

We have a lot of volcanic rocks around here, but these are sedimentary, grit to be precise. Here's a view of the end of the lake showing the horizontal strata...
