Revised goal!
Okaaaay... My goal to learn Spanish lasted exactly one week. Not that there was anything wrong with my progress. I had happily done a couple of the Say Something in Spanish challenges and it was going fine, but yesterday and today I was at an intensive Welsh course and I've realised that if I have 30 minutes a day spare to learn Spanish, then it should go into extra Welsh study. I spent the whole of each day of the course speaking Welsh, but I still don't have a big enough vocabulary and I keep starting long sentences that I can't finish. So, new goal is to keep the focus on Welsh and try to increase the time to 60 minutes a day so I can include vocabulary building as well as practising sentence patterns.

Duolingo invited me to take up another language the other day, as if learning Russian wasn't brain-boggling enough on its own... But then, some days I only spend five or ten minutes doing the exercises, so it's no surprise if I'm struggling.

Sixty minutes a day is an impressive commitment to learning.

I've just got an "It's now or never" feeling about learning Welsh to the point where I'm truly fluent. I'm 65, I've recently retired and I do, finally, have enough time spare for intensive learning. Also, learning a language is supposed to stave off Alzheimers, so that's a plus. But if want to be able to use Welsh confidently in the community and take part in meetings where Welsh is the main language, I need to put in the effort now because in 5-10 years time, it'll be too late and there won't be any point.
