Get your brand new New Year resolutions here!

From various people, including anghara and matociquala

In the year 2007 I resolve to:
Figure out why I really need 7 e-mail addresses.

Get your resolution here.

If only it was a mere 7!

*Counts on fingers*

I have 7 different mail boxes set up on the Demon address alone. Then there's my work email address, my OU tutor email address, my OU student email address, my 3 Yahoo email addresses (mostly used for sending practice emails to students when I'm teaching Introduction to Web & Email courses), there's my Gmail address, that I never have used for anything, but it seemed like a good idea at the time.

Total 14. Oh, dear! And I do use all of them apart from the Gmail. Which I'm sure I'll find a use for some day.

Pesky varmints

anghara has been having problems with her printer.

Sometimes these gadgets are too clever for their own good. My husband once had the opposite problem. That is, the printer would happily chug away, but it was churning out blank page after blank page.

After lots of head scratching and on the point of contacting the Epson helpdesk, he realised that it was just out of ink. The counter or whatever it is that actually determines when a cartridge is empty assumes an average page of typescript. He'd been printing lots of pictures, which used up much more black.

But would the bloody thing let him change the cartridge? No. Because it was convinced there was still ink remaining, it wouldn't run the Park The Print Head In The Middle So My Nice Owner Can Replace The Cartridge routine.

In the end he had to physically wrestle it into submission and wrench the thing to a halt. With a new cartridge, printing was restored, and somehow the printer survived the rough handling.

Writing progress

Story Title: A Necessary Evil (aka The One About the War)
Words revised today: 584 (plus some swapping chunks of text around between chapters, see below!)
Words now in Chapter 6: 5930
Words total: 36,012
Reason for stopping: Need a little smackerel of something for lunch, then I must continue critting and grading the stories for the fiction writing course I tutor.

I really should have spent all day on the marking (US grading), but the writing itch had returned, so I thought I'd poke at the WIP a bit yesterday and I carried on today. Collapse )

Next job, sort out the mess that is the first battle scene. But that will be for tomorrow...
