Writing progress -- NaNoWriMo

Collapse )

NaNoWriMo (Zanna and the God-King): 2006 new words:

Zanna and the God-King
2,006/ 50,000 (4%)

OK, I must be bonkers. Having told everyone for weeks that NaNo is not for me, I've not only signed up but also just written 2006 words of something totally new.

It would have been better to start at the beginning of the month, but I had the assignment story to write and my brain was too full of that to think about anything else.

Then today with the story safely submitted, I began to get withdrawal symptoms. (Because I changed ideas at the last minute, I had to write that story fast.) The next assignment isn't due until after Christmas and it's to adapt the first story for stage, radio or screen, so I thought, why not?

It also occurred to me that I had a suitable project in the To Write queue. It's a new idea, only a bare few months old. I had the plot of the first half worked out. I had half a dozen pages of notes, but I hadn't written a word of the draft, so it even qualifies as a genuine NaNo project. I also want this to be weird. I don't want the logical, organised part of my brain getting at it.

Of course I've done no world building, so there will be place-holders galore, but if I end up with a very rough draft of something, I can work on it next year.

The mystery town

I found this link this morning about a mystery town appearing on Google maps. The article in the Telegraph suggests that no one can explain it. My guess would be that it's some kind of test data that has been made public when it should have remained hidden.

At least we always used to make up test data when we were testing software.

Though I do like the suggestion that it's a Narnia like place that can only be found if you know where the magic portal is. :)

There were a few fireworks earlier, but they've stopped now. I didn't notice any yesterday and the local display is Barmouth this year, so I'm firework-deprived here.
