Gwyddor Gymreig / Welsh alphabet

1/52 for the group T189ers weekly alphabet challenge

This week's theme: A is for Alphabet

The Welsh alphabet goes like this:

a, b, c, ch, d, dd, e, f, ff, g, ng, h, i, j, l, ll, m, n, o, p, ph, r, rh, s, t, th, u, w, y

Note that there is no q, v, x or z. Also, unlike in English, a double letter in Welsh counts as one single letter for the purposes of Scrabble and crosswords. The photo shows some of the Welsh Scrabble tiles and their scores.

Point reached on journey: We left the camp just after dawn, crossed a stream and climbed a hill. After riding for some distance along the hillcrest, we have turned and begun to descend.

Where I really went...

It was evening not dawn. Well, late afternoon. I set off about 3 pm and got back home at 4.30. It still seemed fairly light as I was walking back to the house, but once I got inside and looked back out through the window, it seemed pretty much dark.

Anyway, about the walk... I'll post another photo (my shot for Week 1 of the 52 of 2012 group) which explains more about where I went, but the photo below was taken walking up to the Gwernan Lake.

I must have some sort of scene analyser running automatically in my head because I was wandering along, not thinking about anything in particular when I realised that my feet has stopped moving and I was looking at this view.

Cader Road

It was completely unconscious and nothing else had triggered the "must take camera out of rucksack and take a photo" until I reached this point. I think it was the outline of the tree silhouetted against the sky and the way the shape of the branch echoes the mountain, but I just found the composition appealing.

A new path round Gwernan Lake

1/52 for the group 52 of 2012

This week's theme was: New

Having lived in the same area for over 30 years, it's rare to find a new local walk. However, I noticed recently that a new path had appeared around this lake. They have made new access points from the lane and built a board walk to take the path across the boggy ground at each end of the lake.

So today I walked around this beautiful local lake for the very first time. It was about 3.30 pm and the light was already starting to go, but this shot captures the cold grey January day.
