Percentage complete: 71%

Point reached on journey: We can still see the snowcapped peak rising above Calenhad and now the beacon tower of Calenhad, standing on one of the foothills, has come into sight.

Where I really went...

It's been quite a while since I walked along the Mawddach Trail, so it was lovely to set off that way for a change with a definite purpose in view, namely to meet friends and have lunch together to celebrate 50 years since our local Quaker meeting was formed. Sadly the man who started our meeting died a couple of years ago, but his wife still hosts the meeting in her home, so the connection is still there. The person organising the meal had chosen a hotel and restaurant just a couple of miles outside town. This restaurant is normally too expensive for me to even consider as a place to eat, but what I didn't know was that out of season they do what they call "Winter Warmers", more modest meals at a reduced price to tempt the locals.

I decided that as I normally go for a walk on Friday mornings, I would walk to the restaurant (a distance of just over 2 miles) to work up an appetite for a larger lunch than I normally eat.

As the photo shows, it's not quite spring yet, but we are getting the occasional sunny morning.

More phots behind here...Collapse )

Walking to the venue worked well, except... Well, let's just say that next time I visit a new place even if I think I know where it is, if I've never been there before I must check the location. I nearly didn't make it to the lunch because what I thought was the drive to the hotel turned out to be the drive to the farm with the holiday cottages. I then walked in the wrong direction and though I had realised my mistake and had turned round and was heading in the right direction, if a friend hadn't phoned and then driven to find me, I'd have been very late. Oops!

PS I just wanted to say thank you to all of you who commented on my "Must do better" post from last week and to explain why I titled is as I did. I know I am tempted to feel that I should be able to do All The Things!! all of the time and that that is not reasonable or even humanly possible. Likewise I know that if I'm ill, I should cut myself some slack. But there's being kind to oneself and there's allowing oneself to be lazy and it's not always easy to find the right balance. Also, though I probably did have a very mild fluey illness of some kind (because G said he felt ill later in the week), I shouldn't have just sat in a zombie like state staring at the computer screen reading rubbish on the internet. I should have alternated gentle pottering about the house with actual going to bed and resting. This would have probably helped me recover more quickly than lapsing into the zombie computer state. Anyway, whatever it was, it seems to have gone and I'm back to normal functioning again.
