Reason for stopping: Time to go and buy pizzas.
I have realised that if I want to get any writing done, I have to go into another room and use the laptop. I just can't resist the temptation of the Net if I use the desktop machine.
After not writing all day (though I did do useful stuff like sort through a storage box and dealt with a couple of students from the fiction writing course), I took the laptop into the kitchen and, after a bit of pushing, produced 1129 words.
This is the scene where Huw learns to do the sword dance. *g*
The beat began slowly and at first the men merely circled one another, stepping forwards and back, swords moving through the age-old pattern in slow, steady sweeps. Then with a thump from the drums and a clash of steel that made Huw jump, even though he'd been expecting it, the swords met for the first time. Slowly, gradually, the pace increased. The steps became faster, the turns sharper. Blade met blade more often. Flashing steel swept in carefully calculated arcs, narrowly missing the partner's head.
Mark leaned forwards, elbows in his knees, chin in his hands, watching intently. "I reckon I could do that," he said.
Off now in search of pizzas for dinner. I will have to run the gauntlet of the fireworks. Not sure who it is; the bangs sound close. I'd drive, but I'd probably have to defrost the car and besides the road into town is closed, so I'd have to go all the way round the bypass.
Anyway, I could do with the exercise.
