Writing progress -- novel in 90

Words written today: 1288
Total words in novel: 53,867
People killed: 0
Mean things done to characters: Huw has just opened the letter containing bad news from home.

1288 words!

I struggled my way to the end of the rewrite of Chapter 6, have looked at Chapters 7-9 and decided the contents were approximately OK so have left those to revise later and have added more words to Chapter 10.

Whee! The open road of a blank screen and brand new words lies ahead!

Must do some planning tomorrow...

A snippet.

This was the point where I stopped for today:

"News from home?" Gai asked, indicating the letter that was sticking out of Huw's breast pocket.

"Yes, but I haven't had chance to read it yet."

"Don't let me stop you."

Huw scowled at Gai. "There's no privacy in this camp."

"Just ignore me. Pretend I'm not here."

"Promise not to read over my shoulder?"

"Would I do such a thing?"

"You're one of the few men in the squadron who could." Huw sighed. This was about as private as it was going to get. Meilyr and Cynan had probably retired to the tent by now, and anyway, the light was better here by the fire. He pulled the letter out of his pocket and unfolded it. It was already looking a bit crumpled. He smoothed the pages as best he could and began to read.
