"Turn to page 123 in your work-in-progress. (If you haven't gotten to page 123 yet, then turn to page 23. If you haven't gotten there yet, then get busy and write page 23.) Count down four sentences and then instead of just the fifth sentence, give us the whole paragraph."
As I am in the middle of Chapter 14, this is from page 123.
At least it's the page I estimate to be page 123. I actually save each chapter as a separate file, but thanks to this meme, I have now put a print file together. (Printing a hard copy of chapters completed so far was on my writing To Do list, but I hadn't yet got a round tuit.)
Swiftly scanning the faces, Mark only saw two men he could put a name to: Lord Henllan, father of Prince Gavran's fiancée and Lord Becara, the pompous little man who'd been hassling the Prince after the betrothal ceremony. Lord Henllan seemed much more comfortable in dark riding breeches and boots, plain shirt, dark jacket and heavy workmanlike sword by his side then he had looked in all his finery at the betrothal. Becara shone sleekly beside him in an expensive looking flame-red silk suit that did nothing for his complexion or figure.
It's very much first draft and there's a cumbersome sentence in the middle of that extract, but it'll do for now. I'm regarding this whole draft as a place-holder for the novel I really want to write!
Tag yourself, if you feel so inclined, and do this in your LJ.
