On breaking news

Something I just said to mjlayman in a comment in this thread about the security alert at Tesco stores reminded me of something...

As the full facts come in

This reminds me of an incident a few years ago. On the main BBC radio news at lunchtime the newsreader solemnly announced that they'd just heard of a train crash at Fairbourne. Further details would be announced when they had them. It sounded like a big story and we were rather alarmed as it's our local railway line.

The story was, however, rapidly dropped -- apart from a tiny update right at the end of the next bulletin. It was this railway. A couple of the little carriages had fallen over due to very high winds and the three or four passengers travelling on the train had been slightly shaken when they fell into a sand dune. No one was even hurt.
