And I didn't buy anything...

Well, other than popping into the Co-op for a couple of pizzas, braising steak for tomorrow, also cauliflower, broccoli, tomatoes, cucumber, courgette and ice cream.

No, what I didn't buy were things that were advertised on the home-made signs placed by the roadside that I passed on the way home.

Living in a rural area, as I do, you often see such signs advertising anything from duck eggs and tomatoes to sheepdog puppies and hay.

At the moment, should I have turned down the lanes and driveways marked with signs, I could have come home with:

- horses and ponies
- kittens
- Labrador puppies
- Kindling sticks
- Free range eggs

I think I exercised wonderful self-control, don't you? :)
