  • Mood:

It's that time of year again...

The end of October approaches and people start talking about one thing. No, not Halloween, I mean NaNoWriMo.

Quite a few years ago now, a bunch of us in rasfc became tired of the annual NaNo hype. We sort of would have liked to do it, but knew we never could, for various reasons ranging from, "that's just not how my creativity works," to "November is always mad busy in work," and "I daren't risk it because I've had RSI before and I have to watch how long I spend on the keyboard." Anyway, someone came up with the answer, IWriSloMo, which can be taken to mean either "International Writing Slowly Month" or "I Write In Slow Motion", whichever you prefer.

Originally a mailing list, it is still functioning in a very low key way as an LJ community iwrislomo and we're hoping that there will be some reporting of word counts (however tiny!) and general supportive conversation during this November.

You set your own target, or not, as the mood takes you. I know quite a lot of people like to ride the wave of NaNo, using the general enthusiasm for writing to encourage them to make progress. iwrislomo provides a place to boast about writing 50 words on the previously stuck project or where you can tell us that you didn't actually write any words, but while you were out walking the dog, you suddenly discovered your protag's motivation.

So, if you've always wanted to do NaNoWriMo but knew that it was an impossible goal, why not come and write slowly in iwrislomo?
