Otherwise the trip down went very smoothly. I merely had to whip the cover off the car this morning and we could set off straight away, no scraping and cold, painful fingers. I insisted that we set off in plenty of time because the temperature as a couple of degrees below freezing and it was trying to snow, but the roads had been well gritted and the attempt at snow was pretty feeble, so driving was OK. At least by setting off early, we got a parking space in the station car park at Machynlleth and didn't need to park up the nearby road.
Despite all the warnings on the TV about bad weather the train got us to Birmingham International on time, where we caught a train that arrived 5 minutes before ours was due. That train had been delayed by about half an hour, but there were no further delays and we arrived in London just after 2 pm.
After checking in at the LSE Passfield Hall, we walked down to the river and wandered along the Thames footpath before having a meal at the pizza place. Further wandering along by the river brought us to Vauxhall station, and from there we got the Tube back to Euston and hence to our lodgings.
Weather is fine but very cold. Tomorrow we plan to visit the Thames Barrier. It should be a good photo opportunity. Here's a photo from this evening.
