Some sort of umbelliferous flower

26/52 for T189ers Photo-a-week.

This week's theme was: 50mm.

I don't have a 50mm lens and the markings on my kit lens only show 35 and 55, so I had to guess. The Exif data says that it was actually 49mm, so I hope this is close enough!

One of these days I will learn to identify flowers, but this was a sweet-smelling umbelliferous flower of some kind growing by the river.

Nice. Maybe Queen Anne's Lace (Daucus carota)?

Thanks for the suggestion. I will unearth the wildflower books and do some comparing.

Umbellifers are notoriously difficult to tell apart, but Daucus carota (Wild Carrot in the UK), very helpfully has a tiny red flower in the middle of the white flowers so you can tell it apart (see userpic!).

I love the oof background. The foreground petals seem to be dancing!

Re: ooh

Thanks. I'm getting better at mostly out of focus photos since taking more of them last year on the 365 project.

Definitely not traditional Queen Anne's Lace. My guess would be a variety called Orlaya grandiflora.
