West Shore Llandudno, a photo by Helen in Wales on Flickr.

45/52 for the group 52 of Twenty Eleven

This week's theme: Before and after

The SOOC of this shot is shown below.

I waited until Friday to take the shots for this week, but I was sadly disappointed with the light. This was taken at 3 in the afternoon! Yes, I know it's mid-November, but it shouldn't be this dark.

Anyway, I cropped the shot and cloned out the swans. I used the dodge and burn tool to add the slight vignetting. I upped the saturation a little to make the reflected light stand out better and painted in a touch of colour on the horizon where it had burned out to white.

This is the un-retouched original.

Oh, I like this photo. It's almost a watercolour... a study in horizontal lines.

Thanks. Considering the drear light -- if the word "drear" didn't already exist, I would have had to invent it! -- it didn't come out too badly.

Nice one. Is that the paddling pool in the foreground?

It was a pool for sailing toy boats when I was young and I don't think you're supposed to paddle in it. The sign did say "No bathing". Anyway, it's just by the Alice in Wonderland statue.

Love the hills, each one lighter than the next, receding in the background.

I always love that effect too, when hills fade into the distance.

That's gorgeous! I've never seen Llandudno looking so mystical - though I suppose it SHOULD look mystical, since it's a stone's throw from Great Orme (which I presume is featured here...)
