Eowyn Challenge -- Isengard to Minas Tirith with Merry and the Rohirrim

Miles travelled today: 4½
Miles travelled so far: 123½ (1787½ from Bag End)
Miles still to go: 454½

Percentage complete: 79%

Point reached on journey: Merry, riding with Théoden and the Rohirrim, has reached a swift-flowing mountain stream. After, crossing the stream, they ride beside it for a while.

Where I really went...

This was my second walk with Brith. I walked the same loop round some of the back lanes, but did it in the other direction. He settled down more quickly today and spent less time zigzagging from one smell to another and weeing on things. :) Also we met a dog he is friends with, a beagle who lives a few doors away from him. It's interesting to know that he can be OK with some dogs. It means I don't have to totally rule out the possibility of taking him out with other dogs, though obviously a lot of careful getting to know one another would be required first.

However, while he happily ignores cars and big vans and even a small oil tanker, he still has a thing about Landrovers and pickups pulling trailers. He tries to lunge at them and barks. I have two theories. One is that he has bad memories associated with Landrovers from before he came into the rescue's hands, the other is that it could relate to his issues with other dogs. Landrovers and pickups often have noisy farm dogs in them. Or I suppose it could be a combination of the two.

Anyway, it was a good walk and I'm already feeling fitter, which is good.
