Tangfastics - Helen's journal and online home
In which an old dog attempts to learn new tricks.

Tangfastics, a photo by Helen in Wales on Flickr.

I have just finished the final essay (3000 words!) for the OU children's literature course.

I'm old enough to remember dolly mixtures, ju-jus and pear drops, so I'd never tried these Haribo sweets before because I think they even post-date the offspring's childhood. But the other students were eating them and so I tried a packet.

As a result, my essay was fuelled by Tangfastics and as I still had some left at the end, I thought they might make a good subject for this week's alphabet theme of "Kaleidoscope". This was the original picture, turned into a kaleidoscope at www.tuxpi.com.

Are they any good? We don't have that candy here in the States, but we do have a candy called fruit slices that looks similar.

They are rather interesting. They have a sour coating (hence the "tang" in the name), but underneath they are sweet jelly.

I love sour things and I love chewy things, though if I have to pick a 'sweet' it's usually Skittles as they're a bit easier to find now than Tooty Frooty. Fortunately I don't have a strong sweet tooth, so cravings are rare.

Haribo are okay though I tend to prefer the larger bags and singles variety - family size Skittles usually do the trick ... ;) Huh, now you've got me thinking about the sweet shoppe at the bottom of town!

I very rarely buy sweets so this was something of a departure, but sucking them did seem to help the concentration. :)

You know you're a photographer when you turn _everything_ into a photo ;-)

Well done on finishing the essay and getting it off your desk - have a happy, unencumbered birthday!

Thanks. I've had a quiet but pleasant day. I hope you managed to find a moment to relax on your birthday too.
