A train thunders through our local station.
Or does it...?
Sadly, not really. This glimpse into the past was courtesy of a one day exhibition of an amazing model of the railway line between Dolgellau and Penmaenpool, enabling visitors to get an impression of what the railway used to be like before the Beeching axe fell.
Here's another view of the station...
None of this exists any more -- apart from the road bridge at the extreme left -- and the bypass now runs where the railway line used to be.
The old goods yard is now the site of the Wynnstay Stores and the Plaza cinema became the police station!
Another shot of the goods yard.
And here are a couple of photos that reveal that it was just a model. :)
This bridge is still there but now carries the Mawddach cycling and walking trail.
I've posted quite a few photos of the real pub at Penmaenpool in the past and you can still see the railway signals.
The road still crosses the track to go over the Penmaenpool Toll Bridge, but there is no need of crossing gates now it's just a walking and cycling trail. :)
