The field trip was hugely successful. The geologists came from North Wales and were very impressed with our scenery and our rocks. They admired the volcanic rocks, scrambled across the scree to examine the zenoliths and spent some time searching for fossils at an abandoned slate quarry. They found some too! Then we walked on to this lake and looked at more rocks before making our way back to the car park. But the day wasn't quite over. A short drive away is a very old iron mine and before setting off, they went to collect themselves some sparkly ore.
This pretty lake is dotted with bogbean flowers with the mountain Cadair Idris in the background.
Here's a close up of the bogbean. It's pretty enough to be a garden plant!
