Stop for a moment...
...before turning and walking back.

This cottage is at the furthest point on the walk I normally do with Brith. Because of his issues, we are somewhat limited in where we can go, but even though we walk up and down the same stretch of road, there's always something new to see as the seasons change. Today we saw a field being re-seeded. It's unusual to see a field of brown soil, just about everything is grass round here.

Where the tiny lane meets a slightly larger lane, there is this old stone cottage.

Old cottage

After the walk and lunch, I drove to the station to pick up an old friend who is staying in town for a few days. All being well and weather permitting, we'll do a walk together on Thursday.

Oh, so green! And the cottage looks huge!

That must be a trick of the perspective. By US standards it's tiny. :) Perhaps the bench beside the door, sticking out from behind the rounded bush, might help you judge the perspective better? It's a reasonable size, probably 3 bedrooms, but I wouldn't say huge.

Well, three bedrooms around here is pretty big, but compared to the McMansions that rich people live in, yeah, small.

That cottage is pretty much my dream house - especially if there's room for a barn.

It does have a field at the back where you could build a barn. :)

That's a very fine cottage! Is that where your groundskeepers live?

Sadly not my groundskeepers, but it probably once was part of the Nannau Estate, so possibly someone's groundskeepers. :)

That cottage is adorable! I'm particularly taken by the round chimneys. Is that typical in your area? I'm more accustomed to seeing square ones.

Square is more normal round here too. Actually I think the chimney on the right is octagonal. Muti-sided, anyway. I don't know the history of the cottage, but it's probably on land originally owned by the Nannau Estate, so could have been been deliberately built to look quaint, even when it was new.
