You know how they always show the best bits in the trailer?
Via birdsedge, here is a trailer for Monty Python and the Holy Grail, done as though it were Game of Thrones.

I just think this is absolutely wonderful and demonstrates just what you can do with a bit of skilful editing.

It also demonstrates the power of background music. G and I happened to catch an interesting TV programme on the history of music in cinema and this would be an excellent example of how the music conveys the mood -- or in this case completely misleads. :)

Current Mood: amused amused

I haven't seen Game of Thrones & nothing I've read about it makes me want to. On the contrary - it sounds dire.

I do get this clip though - it's very clever. And the bonus is, it makes me want to watch Grail again!

I tried to read the first book of the Game of Thrones series some years ago, but even though I read a lot of fantasy at the time, I just couldn't get into it. The TV series doesn't really appeal either.

I was put off Game of Thrones from the outset because of a disturbing plot-line concerning the arranged marriage & rape of one of the characters. Further investigation threw up a disturbing amount of sexual violence, rape & an appalling level of hatred for women.

Thanks, but no thanks. George R R Martin appears to have created a patriarchal world from choice. Why would he do that?

I have no idea. I heard George R R Martin speak at Eastercon last year. He was guest of honour. He read a bit from the latest, as yet unpublished volume, and I thought it was awful.

Haha! That's that then! Haha some more!

It helps that Terry Jones (for all that he was taking the piss) was genuinely in love with the Middle Ages.

Well done. That movie rocked my world.

Oh that was glorious! And very silly.

Awesome. The background music helps a lot.

I know, it really shows how important film music is. You don't tend to notice when it fits the movie (and that's how it should be). But here, where it's deliberately creating an impression that actually runs counter to the original film, it's effects are more noticeable.

That is hilarious, and makes me want to see the same thing done to Game of Thrones in the other direction.

What you say about background music is so true, and this trailer was also making me see how much drums get used these days.

Oh, if only someone would do Game of Thrones as though it were a Monty Python film. That would be equally hilarious. Sadly I lack both the skills or the time to attempt it.

I would line up TWICE for that. And pull a George Harrison and mortgage my home to finance it. Okay, yeah, I don't OWN my home, but I'd mortgage it anyway!
