Easter is approaching - Helen's journal and online home

Easter is approaching
I won't be going to EasterCon this year. Easter is often a difficult time for me to get away. G is always up to his eyes in student projects and it's also one of the best times to see the offspring and grand-offspring. Besides, it's still taking me all my time and energy to keep up with the preparation and marking for courses I'm teaching. However, I am finding the time to make cute crochet bunnies and little Easter baskets as presents.

If you want to read more, there are pictures here in my crochet blog...

Those bunnies are adorable! And I'm amazed that you think of them as easy, because they sure don't look it to me.

The bunny ears are a bit fiddly and you have to count obsessively to make sure the stitch count is right, but they only use quite basic stitches and techniques, so count as "easy". But despite being simple, they are cute! :)

I'll be sorry not to see you. Hope you can male at least part of Worldcon.

I have registered for WorldCon and also booked accommodation for the whole convention period, so I hope to see you at some point.

I'm not going to be staying on the convention site, instead I'll commute in from one of the LSE halls of residence, which will make it financially viable. Because I need a single room due to getting peopled-out and needing a bolt hole where I can recover, staying in hotels is very expensive, even with the convention discount.

Eastercon became a part of my routine precisely because it took me away from home at Easter. My mother had a tendency to 'lay claim' to me for any significant occasion and being away at Easter avoided repeating the Christmas routine of spending the day there just to keep her happy. :/

Graham's mother was rather like that, though of course Easter was always the first busy weekend while we were still youth hostel wardens, so going to visit her then was out of the question. Actually, as it turns out, I'm seeing our daughter and family the weekend after the Easter weekend, but as I said in my other reply, this time of year is stressful because of the end of academic year assessments that are looming. I'll probably be spending the Easter weekend marking GCSE Controlled Assessments ready for submission at the beginning of May.
