I'm so bad at eating fruit and vegetables in time that even a second carrot can go off if I buy two, so I've added to my mental shopping list the principle that it's okay to get *one* of a vegetable. They won't look sad at me at the checkout.

This rules out packs of course; loose veggies only.

I have recently reintroduced bananas into my diet after giving up due to wasting so many. I now make myself buy loose ones and just buy 2 or at most 3. That seems to be working. Packs are fine for a family, but for one or even for two, they lead to wastage. It's just a case of making myself take that extra few seconds to select loose fruit or veg instead of grabbing a pack.
