we used to do poppies but then there got to be competing groups selling competing colors
the original meaning got lost

WW1 had different meaning for us - poppies were associated also with WW2 - our Veterans of Foreign Wars sold them
But Viet Nam really made things difficult and eventually eliminated poppies

The Royal British Legion have a monopoly on poppies here and I must admit that, despite my ambivalence to the poppies, I rather liked the hijab covered in poppies. Our right-wing louts tend to forget that many Muslims fought and died in the British armed forces.

I noticed a few years ago that the Legion sells other faith (including atheist) versions of the small wooden cross with a poppy in the centre. The Legion remembers, even if the louts don't.
